Kuroma sat leaning against a tree. Her sister was sitting against the same tree on the other side. Things seemed to be so peaceful, even though any moment hell could break loose. That had all started some time ago. In this village in which she, her sister, her mother and father lived, they liked peace. It was a nice isolated village, called Hiezu. At first glance, it would seem a rather normal village; people going about their business.

but when you looked better, you could see what made the people of Hiezu different from other, normal people. Instead of normal ears did they have wolf ears on their heads. And at the bottom of their spines, they had a wolf tail. The people of Hiezu were known as wolf people. They had wolf genes in their bodies. No one knew how they got those genes there, it was simply a fact all people in this village had those genes.

because of their appearance, they had made their own village, mostly isolated from other villages, as it would freak people out if people with wolf ears and tails would walk through their streets. Even so, even though the people here had wolf genes, they weren’t wild animals. They were kind and gentle and were respectful to others. But those others, being normal people, saw that differently. From time to time normal humans passed through the village of Hiezu and were freaked out by what they saw.

for not only were the people of Hiezu adorned with wolf ears and tails, physically they were more capable than normal humans. They could lift incredibly heavy objects with ease and were able to run incredibly fast. The humans were so freaked out, every time, that they always left in a hurry.

and than had come the day that everything had gone bad. Hiezu’s kindness was not only turned down, it was destroyed. The people had become so afraid of the wolf people. The tales people had told had increased, turned into rumors and had changed bit by bit until all the people in the village had been described as bloodthirsty monsters. And as such, the army had been send to the village of Hiezu, to get rid of the wolf people forever.

as the army had come, the scientists in the army tried to capture wolf people for their research. Kuroma frowned as she had been one of the kids that had been captured. She had been stripped, researched, prodded and experimented on. before the army had come, she was fine with normal humans. After she and the others managed to escape and return, finding some of their people still in Hiezu and fighting, they joined them.

Kuroma growled. She had remembered the scent of all those monsters who had experimented on her. with those scents in mind, she would be able to get her revenge on everyone who did those horrible things to her. Kuroma was shook out of her anger as something landed in her lap. Her sister had moved around the tree and had placed her head in Kuroma’s lap. She smiled at her sister, lying there so peacefully. She moved a hand through her sister’s ear before gently scratching her behind her ear.

her sister opened one of her eyes, looking up at her with a smile, before closing her eye and enjoying the ear scratching. Kuroma chuckled, leaned back, closed her eyes and smelled the fresh air around them. the fresh grass, the flowers, the trees, the earth, the rocks, steel, gunpowder, humans! Kuroma opened her eyes and sat up straight. Her sister opened both her eyes and looked up. Kuroma sniffed the air and her sister followed her example.

they both stood up as her sister said, ‘there’s about twenty of them.’ Kuroma, ‘they’re camouflaged and try to hide their scent.’ Her sister, ‘fifteen of them have guns.’ Kuroma, ‘five of them are medical units. And one of them is one of the creeps who experimented on me! good! I’ll tear him limb from limb!’ her sister grabbed her wrist, ‘that’s good. I won’t stop you from doing that. but if you go out there now, alone, you’d end up captured, or worse; dead. Let’s warn the others first!’

Kurmoa sighed, nodded and ran with her sister back into the village, telling everyone humans were approaching. As they went through the village, warning people, bringing them to the town hall for a gathering to discuss their plans, Kuroma was also thinking of strategies to use against the humans. Traps were set up around the village to stop, capture and end approaching humans. But there was no definite guaranty that would work.

as everyone came together in the town hall, the mayor stepped forward, ‘my fellow wolf people. We’ve suffered under the humans before, again and again. we tried to be nice, friendly. That was repaid by the army, who killed our people, captured us, experimented on us and tried to exterminate us completely! And now their troops are approaching us again, from three sides! North, south-east and south-west. Each group approaching has about twenty soldiers, meaning there’s sixty in total. We’ve tried to be friendly before. when we captured them and let them go, they tried to kill us! we’re still a village, we’re still united people. Like a wolf defends its territory, we will defend Hiezu and each other!’

everyone agreed, cheering the man on. some of those cheers even sounded like howls. The mayor nodded and continued, sending various groups of wolf people into various directions. Ten would go north-west, ten north east, ten east, ten west and twenty would go south. With the superior smell and hearing the wolf people had, they would be able to track their prey, in this case the soldiers. And as they didn’t go directly toward their enemy, but around them, surrounding them between two forces, this would be easy pickings. This had been one of Kuroma’s strategies, which she had shared with the village.

everyone spread out just like the mayor had said, the man himself went as well, leader of one of the groups. Kuroma went to the east, so she could surround the approaching soldiers coming from the south east. She was the leader in her group of people. She had been leading her people before and they trusted her. as she was focused now, she could stay calm, even though she was angry. As everyone went out into the fields, Kuroma send out three of the wolf people to check up on the traps in the surrounding area and set up one or two new ones, if they had time to do so.

as the soldiers came into sight, the wolf people had already surrounded them. and the other two groups of humans were also completely surrounded. And the three wolf people located on the watchtower in the middle of the town saw this as well. and as everyone was in place, they took up their microphones, sending out a howl. And at this howl, all the wolf people attacked. The soldiers were caught off guard and shocked by the sudden howling in the distance, followed by the immediate attack.

and this moment in which they were caught off guard was all the time the wolf people needed. As the soldiers started to fire their guns, the wolf people had already reached the soldiers, pointing the guns at the ground, before tearing the soldiers apart.

Kuroma heard the sound of feet running and smelled the creep’s scent distancing itself. She saw the man running like the coward he was. she ran after him and followed him through the forest. As she was faster, she ran by him and blocked his path each time. Eventually the man was cornered, not knowing where he could safely go and he pinned himself against a tree. Kuroma then rushed him, grabbing him by his throat, lifting him of the ground and pinning him harder against the tree.

a smile came to her face, ‘are you scared doctor? Allow me to help.’ The doctor, already scared, was shocked at hearing those words. the first words he had said to her, ‘are you scared little girl? Allow me to help!’ He had than sedated her. but he had a feeling she wasn’t going to do the same to him. in his experiments he had hurt her, humiliated her, angered her. and now that anger had come back to get revenge.

Kuroma watched the man struggle, before he put his hands in his pockets and pulling out two scalpels, bringing them to slash at her wrist. She dropped the man and stepped back. The man landed and smiled, thinking her still might stand a chance. The next moment, Kuroma was gone from his field of vision and he fell to his knees, before dropping to the ground. Not knowing why his throat was hurting so much. As Kuroma returned to her people, her right hand was covered in blood.
